"The designers have done a brilliant job in turning what could have been a difficult brief into something beautiful and elegant."
We are very proud to announce one of our projects, Riverside Sunderland Multi-Storey Car Park has recently won the award for ‘Infrastructure and Transport’ at the 2024 Architect’s Journal Awards 2024.
We were responsible for the design, supply and installation of almost 2,000 uniquely perforated panels which cover an area of 3,800 sqm and create the impression of waves across the multi-storey car park. To achieve architect Tonkin Liu’s vision, Maple held design workshops to produce a final design that was functional, cost-effective and also created a visual impact.
In order to achieve a blend between aesthetical and practical, each of the panels were anodised silver to give them a shiny metallic finish that is also corrosion resistant. Over time, aluminium façades in seaside locations such as Sunderland are often subject to the effects of salty sea spray therefore anodising is often used to provide protection and increase the façade's lifespan.
The understated perforated design of the façade was well received by the judges, ‘The designers have done a brilliant job in turning what could have been a difficult brief into something beautiful and elegant. This brings a smile to the face. It doesn’t feel like a repeated pattern – there’s a real richness to it that’s very clever.’
The ceremony, held at the iconic Grosvenor House Hotel in London, brought together the industry's leading firms, architects, and designers. Representing Maple Façades were Andrew Hill, HSEQ Manager, and Adam Jones, Head of Design and Pre-Construction who took to the stage to receive the award on behalf of the company.
“The awards were a fantastic evening and an opportunity to network with several Maple clients that were nominated for awards.” Said Andrew Hill, “The quality of submissions across a range of project types was outstanding and a credit to Tonkin Liu for coming out as winners for the Infrastructure and Transport award."
This award is a great achievement for Maple and we would like to thank Architect’s Journal for the recognition.
