Maple’s products have been instrumental in creating striking and functional façades for hospital facilities.

The modern architectural style encourages spectacle and awe and this is no different for buildings within the healthcare sector. Many modern hospitals feature grand designs to mirror the impressive innovations happening within however it's also important to consider providing practicality and comfortable conditions for employees and patients.

Within this article, we showcase three of the best façade projects Maple have completed within the healthcare sector.

tHE ROYAL OLDHAM HOSPITAL

The new extension at The Royal Oldham Hospital features a combination of terracotta and aluminium rainscreen cladding to strike a balance between aesthetic value and occupant comfort. The terracotta hues of the cladding complement the red brick style of the hospital whilst also providing a subtle homage to the town’s industrial heritage.

The aluminium and terracotta panels were installed using Aspect® Rainscreen Façade System. Aspect® contributes to the hospital’s functional design as it has been specifically engineered for strength and optimal thermal efficiency. Aspect®’s advanced thermal performance helps maintain a comfortable temperature for occupants without the need for additional heating systems.

GREATER MANCHESTER MAJOR TRAUMA HOSPITAL (2023)

Salford Royal’s new trauma facility is a fantastic example of how hospital facilities can provide architectural awe. GMMTH features a unique exoskeleton façade comprising Maple’s gold fins. The fins cover all elevations of the facility including the hospital's entrance where they are attached to large gold posts to achieve the exoskeleton effect.

The project was in collaboration with BAM Construction who were particularly impressed with Maple’s collaborative approach to this unique project:

‘Maple’s approach to collaboration was second to none and helped get over multiple hurdles throughout the construction stages of the projects. The Maple-finished installations are of high quality and BAM as a whole would not hesitate to recommend and use them again.'

THE CHRISTIE HOSPITAL (2022)

The Christie Hospital façade provides a great example of how a hospital façade can also blend into its residential environment, rather than creating an urban spectacle.

To achieve this, Maple installed a timber fin façade on a new multi-storey car park in collaboration with VINCI Construction UK. The timber fins were instrumental in achieving a natural, earthy aesthetic that blends with the residential area whilst also meeting the functional requirements of a car park.

The design features narrow slats on the upper levels of the car park to help prevent light spill from headlights and on the lower levels wider spaced fins provide ventilation for car fumes.

Senior Project Manager at VINCI, Peter Dodd, sang Maple’s praises in achieving the architect's design intent: “Visually, it looks very good for a car park. It’s exactly how the architect wanted it to look. And it had to be, because it was such a sensitive scheme with the locals.”
