Maple's latest project with Morgan Sindall involves the supply, design and installation of bespoke perforated panels for Midlands car park.

Maple Façades have recently won the contract to install an architectural façade comprising perforated and solid panels, expanded mesh and flashings onto a £11 million car park in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

The bespoke perforated panels will have a folded centre with additional returns on each side creating a protruding concertina effect. Three-dimensional façade designs are becoming increasingly popular in the car park sector as many of our recent projects have involved 3D effects, such as Stockport Exchange car park which has a similar perforated, concertina design.

The folded aluminium panels will be powder-coated in a dark khaki-grey shade and feature bespoke castle-shaped perforations as a nod to the town’s heritage. The perforated and expanded mesh panels will clad all four elevations of the 450-space car park with solid panels being fixed to the entrance on the east elevation. The façade will be fixed using the Continuum system, which has been specifically designed for car park façades as it can withstand the live loads common to multi-storey car parks whilst providing architects creative versatility.

Simon Tagg, Leader of Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, commented: “Castle Car Park will be the cornerstone of the wider Ryecroft redevelopment, which is a key part of our Future High Streets Fund plan and will ensure we have a vibrant town centre in Newcastle.”

The car park will replace the Midway car park and include 39 electric vehicle charging spaces. It is expected to be open to the public by March 2024.
