We were responsible for the supply of solid and perforated fins for ‘The Dalton Building’ at MMU.

Manchester Metropolitan University’s new Faculty of Science and Engineering, donned ‘The Dalton Building’, is open and making a dramatic architectural statement thanks to Maple’s fins.

An arrangement of folded vertical and horizontal fins creates a geometric style façade that complements the intriguing trapezoidal shape of the facility. Four levels of vertical fins were installed at various angles to manipulate sun rays and create a sense of variation across the elevations.

The rows of vertical fins are broken up by horizontal fins that span across the building. Both fin systems not only provide a unique statement, but also protect students and visitors from sun glare. Additionally, as the 3mm thick fins extend between different floors, they have been designed with an internal stiffening frame to maintain rigidity.

Just in case the façade wasn’t already incredibly bespoke, both fins were anodised in gold and each vertical fin features perforations of various shapes.

We ensure success with every project through early collaboration and protecting your design intent from day 1.
