Maple are proud to announce that our largest project to date, University of the West of England, has recently won the prestigious Climate Action 2030 Award at the UK & Ireland Green Gown Awards.
Maple were responsible for designing, manufacturing and installing a range of rainscreen cladding products for UWE’s Frenchay campus. Aspect® rainscreen cladding was instrumental in the university’s and Stride Treglown Architects' plans to develop the largest Passivhaus student accommodation development in the UK.
The patented design of Aspect® makes it ideal for a Passivhaus development. The system has been designed with energy efficiency in mind, incorporating thermally efficient and adjustable subframe to reduce thermal bridging and eClips® support system that uses insulation fix technology that saved the best part of 50,000 penetrations. By reducing the amount of heat escaping the development, there is less of a demand for heating systems making the building more energy efficient and Passivhaus compliant.
The judges were impressed with UWE’s efforts to set a new benchmark for sustainable student housing, claiming ‘This case study sets a powerful example for Executives and Directors of Estates and Finance…that dedication, strategic effort, and early-stage investment can yield substantial long-term savings while achieving exceptional results in carbon reduction and energy efficiency.’
