Maple is reinforcing Cambridge’s reputation as a difficult place to get into.

We’re helping to repel rain, solar gain and noise from the University’s international exams group’s new HQ.

Cambridge Assessment designs and delivers exams to more than eight million learners in 170 countries. Currently based in 11 offices across the city, they’re moving to a new home, called The Triangle, in 2018.

The new development will eventually accommodate 3,000 employees and include catering areas, meeting rooms and archive space ― as well as spaces for 1,325 bicycles (and 189 cars).

Each area presented different challenges for Maple during the project, which was completed in June 2017 after a 16-week installation phase.

Working closely with HLM Architects and main contractor Bouygues UK, we installed plant louvres to the main buildings and stairways to provide clean airflow but protect people and machinery from rain ingress and direct sunlight.

We also faced the challenge of cloaking the car park with a finish that was sympathetic to the neighbouring conservation area but was also effective in cutting out noise.

The solution was to use our own Corona climate façades, a cassette-based system chosen for ease of installation. Vertical fins were installed with rear blanking panels, which were manufactured in accordance to BS1474 and insulated to reduce sound by 24 decibels in accordance with the contractor’s specifications.

The vertical fin system throughout the project was powder coated and zinc primed for weather durability.
