Maple have won a prestigious rainscreen cladding project for a new extension at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

We’re installing aluminium and terracotta rainscreen cladding on all elevations of the four-storey building, as well as around an internal courtyard.

The design of the extension takes its inspiration from Oldham’s rich industrial mill heritage, with the terracotta and powder-coated aluminium reflecting the traditional red-brick construction of the existing hospital.

The courtyard panels will be powder-coated in white to maximise light, while composite panels for a rooftop plant screen will be a more industrial grey colour.

The project is not without its challenges. Access difficulties on the site mean that many of the panels will need to be split into smaller sections and reassembled during installation.

When complete, the extension will house two new 24-bed general surgery wards and a new emergency theatre. Each ward will have staff-support facilities, patient day rooms and therapy spaces.

The project is being delivered by Integrated Health Projects, a joint venture between Vinci Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine.
