AR technology allowed the client to see a full-scale panel in the real world on the same day.

Augmented reality became a useful tool for Maple’s Pre-Construction team recently as it allowed us to share full-size models of our products for our clients to see in a real-world setting.

Maple were asked to provide alternative solutions for a recent development that didn’t quite live up to the architect's original intention. To aid the client's decision, we designed AR models which we shared with the client via a link allowing them to view the panel immediately, wherever they were, using a phone or a tablet.

Augmented reality is a ground-breaking new technology being adopted by the construction industry thanks to its ability to allow users to visualise designs instantly in the real world. It works by overlaying digital information, such as graphics, sounds, or other sensory elements, through devices like smartphones, tablets, or AR glasses to seamlessly integrate the real with the digital. Unlike virtual reality (VR), which creates a fully immersive virtual environment, AR blends virtual elements with the physical world, allowing users to interact with both simultaneously.

As well as providing stakeholders with a preview of the finished project, AR can also be leveraged to provide workers with a visual guide of intricate façade designs to enable efficient installation time and reduce the scope for error.

We’re just seeing the beginning of how AR technology can be used in the construction industry so watch this space!
