TALKING IS THE ANSWER AS MAPLE GET SENT TO COVENTRY

Maple are on site this month for one of the most challenging installations in our long history.

That’s because although the 16-week installation programme is tight, access is even tighter. Unable to store the materials on site, we’ve had to devise a detailed – and flexible – just-in-time delivery programme.

“We’ve been visiting the site and talking to the main contactor since the beginning of the year,” said Maple’s Contracts Manager, Peter Mattimore. “There are no set-down areas on site, so all the components are currently in stock in our factory.

“We have identified what products are required week-by-week, but are also monitoring how the rest of the programme is progressing. When we’re ready to go, the products can be on site within 24 hours.”

The decision not to flood the job with installers or materials has been embraced by Buckingham Group Contracting.

“It’s refreshing to work with a main contractor who recognises the experience Maple has with this kind of large, complex scheme, and the interactions we have with various other suppliers and sub-contractors,” added Peter, who says it was never suggested that Maple would be given a 16-week window and told to get on with it.

“They’ve listened to what we need to give them the best possible service, and have shared the full detail of the programme with us. It’s been invaluable.”

The 600-space, six-storey car park is due to open later in 2019, in time to support the city’s new £37m water park.
