We were responsible for providing bespoke brise soleil systems that help Harwell’s new office building achieve net zero emissions.
Maple Façades were proud to supply and install a bespoke brise soleil system for the new Grade A office and laboratory building, ‘Zeta,’ at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire. This cutting-edge project was completed in collaboration with renowned architects Allies and Morrison whose design is intended to meet net-zero standards.
Maple’s brise soleil products are instrumental in helping to achieve Harwell’s sustainability goals, as our Zenith horizontal blades on the south and south-east elevations reduce solar heat gain and glare entering the glazed windows on the ground floor. The support structure of our Zenith brise soleil system also complements the building’s sleek, modern aesthetic as it has been engineered to conceal fixings, creating a polished and cohesive look.
We also designed and installed a bespoke solar shading system around the smaller windows on the south, west, and east faces. The windows are framed by a combination of perforated vertical panels which allow natural light to filter through and solid horizontal panels which assist in blocking out harsh solar glare, resulting in cool, naturally illuminated spaces.
Ultimately, our products help provide comfortable working conditions for visitors of Harwell’s Zeta building without the use of additional cooling systems, thereby reducing energy conversion and helping to achieve net zero emissions.
The project was also in collaboration with SDC Builders, whose Quantity Surveyor, Harry Kettlewell, had a positive experience working with Maple, ‘The service you've given has been great, we've been impressed and will likely recommend Maple in the future.’
