MAPLE'S YELLOW FINS ARE A VIBRANT ADDITION TO BINGHAM SPORTS CENTRE

We worked alongside Willmott Dixon to install a bright new fin façade onto the new sports centre in Nottingham.

The golden yellow fins that clad the new Bingham Sports Centre were designed, supplied and installed by Maple. They are manufactured from Aurora aerofoil blades which are part of our brise soleil range although, in this case, they have been installed as an aesthetic feature.

Bingham Sports Centre marks the second occasion in which Maple’s brise soleil products have been used for aesthetic purposes. A colourful arrangement of our Aurora blades were similarly installed as a plant screen for a data centre in Kao Park.

Each fin measured 1,200mm wide and varied between 5m and 6.5m in height. They were fabricated from perforated aluminium in order to reduce the weight and curved for increased rigidity. Furthermore, the fins were powder-coated in the shade ‘golden yellow’ to provide a striking feature to the centre and align with architect YMD Boon’s architectural vision.

The fins were not the only involvement Maple had in the new sports centre development, we were also responsible for the supply and installation of brise soleil for the south elevation and grey 100mm louvre blades which provide rooftop screening for HVAC machinery.

The Bingham Leisure Centre development is the latest in a series of collaborations with Willmott Dixon and provides a host of new amenities for the community, such as a 23m by 25m pool, two exercise studios, a spin studio and a fitness centre.
