Innovative brise soleil façade add award-winning style to a residential London development
Privacy, solar shading and visual impact were the key words as Maple made its mark in a new mixed use development in London’s White City.
We supplied and installed more than 400 brise soleil panels for The Bloom ― an award-winning development that combines 170 private apartments with healthcare and social services facilities, retail units and car-parking.
Individual panels, made up of ten angled wooden blades, project from the building at 90-degrees. They extend up the full height of the building, creating side ‘walls’ for the balconies to provide shade and privacy.
The imaginative use of brise soleil ― achieved through collaboration between Maple and architects Penoyre and Prasad ― was part of a modular approach to the overall design, which was both cost-effective and quick to construct.
Rated BREEAM Excellent, The Bloom won a 2015 New London Award in the Health & Care category and was commended in the Mixed Use Development category at the 2015 British Home Awards.
With extensive experience in design, manufacturing and installation, Maple was able to bring the vision of architects Penoyre and Prasad for The Bloom to life and create cost-effective proposals for a complete product package using our versatile range.” Jay McGrath, Maple Sunscreening.
