The installation of a gold and silver fin façade has recently been completed in Smithfield.
Maple’s latest architectural façade installation entailed the application of nearly 200 asymmetrical fins onto Smithfield MSCP in Stoke.
The shape of the vertical fins takes inspiration from the famous Spitfire aircraft from World War Two, commemorating its inventor who was born and raised in Staffordshire.
The fins were formed from folded aluminium and powder-coated in anodic silver and gold tones. Powder-coating creates a hard protection layer and is tougher than conventional paint making it a great option for aluminium facades.
Maple’s pre-construction services were vital in the early design stages of the project in order to achieve the architect’s vison whilst also aligning to the client’s budget. This was achieved through value engineering by folding the aluminium plates to form the fins which helped to cut wastage.
Rainscreen cladding panels were also installed to enclose the stair core of the 730-space car park to provide protection for its customers.
The architectural façade is one of Maple’s latest collaborations with Willmott Dixon following projects at Gateshead’s Baltic Quarter, Darlington Station’s Travel Gateway and Horsham Fire Station and Training Centre.
