"It is quite clear from the end result that the all-round quality is second to none." Paul Ingram, Senior Project Manager, Kier Construction.
Maple have finished the installation of a pearl gold fin façade for a car park that forms part of a new transportation hub in Cheltenham. Arle Court Transport Hub marks the latest car park façade installation for Maple and is a contender for our most intricate design to date.
The façade design was the brainchild of architects BDP with whom we have collaborated with on MMU’s ‘Dalton Building’ and whose design carries a similar sense of golden grandeur as Arle Court.
The incredibly bespoke façade includes unique trapezoidal fins to create a sense of movement across the face of the car park. The fins were powder-coated ‘pearl gold’ and due to their positioning, create a dynamic façade depending on which angle the sun hits them.
To achieve this effect, collaboration throughout the project was vital, from design to installation, as each specially designed fin was assigned a location. The façade consists of around 1200 bespoke fins, with 700 unique blades forming the impressive wave effect.
Maple’s ongoing dedication to such a complex project did not go unnoticed by Kier Group’s Senior Project Manager, Paul Ingram:
“We have been pleasantly reassured throughout the process. It has been a real pleasure working with you and your team and we look forward to working with you on another project in the not too distant future.”
As well as the wave façade along the elevations of the car park, Maple were also responsible for supplying and installing fins that mask the entrance canopy and new cycle store. White feature flashing was also installed by Maple, which provides a pleasant variation from the spans of vertical fins.
