Maple have been making waves with a striking architectural façade for a new Kent leisure centre.

We’ve installed an expanded mesh architectural façade across the front of the White Oak Leisure Centre in Swanley.

Powder-coated in signal yellow, the giant curved façade makes a strong visual statement – just as architects Saunders Boston envisaged.

“The architects wanted a section of the façade to align with the curved profile of the building, and create a wave-effect, so we worked with them on a design to make it happen,” said Maple director Jay McGrath.

After fine-tuning the design, we rolled the expanded mesh panels to create the precise profile required by the architect’s brief. Installation (which was completed ahead of schedule) required specialist brackets and Maple’s renowned attention to detail to achieve the clean lines demanded.

The £20m White Oak Leisure Centre is Sevenoaks District Council’s largest project in more than 30 years. It’s being built by construction firm ISG and includes a 25m swimming pool, multi-purpose sports hall, fitness suite, activity studio and café.

“The (yellow façade) is what sticks out for me the most,” said ISG’s Senior Project Manager, Karl Taylor. “It gives the building the character and colour it needs. I’m still quite impressed with the curves and how they work. I’d definitely use Maple again.”
