Vector® fins, Skyvane® brise soleil and Aspect® façade system will be installed onto a new development at Wester Hailes High School in Scotland.
Maple have recently won an architectural façade contract for a new building at Wester Hailes High School. The building is part of Phase 2 of Edinburgh Council’s redevelopment of the school and has been designed to meet Passivhaus standards.
Skyvane® brise soleil will be installed across all elevations of the building to provide solar shading and help maintain optimum comfort levels with little to no energy usage as per Passivhaus specifications. Additionally, Vector® vertical fins will be fixed to the west, south and east elevations to account for where sun angles are often lower and traditional horizontal blades can’t cover. These fins will also be powder-coated in a green and brown shade to complement the colour of the aluminium rainscreen cladding and serve as an architectural feature.
Maple will also be installing two kinds of rainscreen cladding onto the new Passivhaus development. Terracotta cladding will be installed onto the north, south and west faces alongside Aspect® rainscreen façade system whose design will help Edinburgh Council’s Passivhaus goals. Maple’s products are no stranger to Passivhaus specifications, as last year Aspect façade system was installed onto one of the UK’s biggest Passivhaus developments, UWE. The patent design of Aspect makes it ideal for sustainable buildings as it’s been engineered for strength and increased thermal efficiency. Not to mention, the accompanying eClips® support system uses innovative patented insulation-fix technology to improve U-values and weather-sealing performance by minimising penetrations into the fixing ground.
The development of Wester Hailes High School is already well underway with McLaughlin & Harvey as the main contractor and Maple are expected onsite in autumn 2025.
