Maple have been manufacturing and installing architectural façades during the COVID-19 crisis

That’s a result of the safety processes and procedures put in place in recent months, says HSEQ and Business Improvement Manager, Mark Simpson. But it’s also a tribute to the culture of safety that exists within the business.

Reflecting on recent advances in CHASSafeContractor and Achilles certification, Mark believes the dedication of all employees has been the major factor in keeping Maple operational. He said: “Managing risk across our business during the coronavirus pandemic has unquestionably been a challenge.

“But we’ve remained operational and continued to install projects through the dedication of all employees working in accordance with the latest government guidelines, internal risk assessments and our customer site instructions.

We’ve learnt many things during this period, some of which will remain as standard in the future. For example, video calls to reduce travel, product design reviews that challenge our traditional thinking, greater reliance on technology, and new installation procedures that reduce manual handing.”

Mark’s role at Maple is to promote people’s health and safety, protect the environment, and develop products and processes that maximise quality and minimise risk. Since his appointment more than a year ago, he has overseen several initiatives and assessments to improve the company’s already outstanding HSEQ performance.

Mark added: “In recent weeks, we’ve successfully completed the documentation review stage of ISO-9001, ISO-14001 and ISO-45001 certification. We’re doing it through Alcumus, the leading UKAS-accredited certification body.

It’s been a really positive experience for all involved as we continue to improve our HSEQ performance and prepare for the Stage-2 certification audit in December.

As well as transitioning its ISO certifications, Maple also holds a number of other widely recognised certifications, including CHAS Premium Plus, Constructionline Gold, Achilles Building Confidence, and SMAS Worksafe SSiP and PAS91

These certifications provide our customers with the knowledge that HSEQ at Maple is not only central to our operations but is also regularly independently assessed against the highest standards,” said Mark.
