Maple’s plant screen system protects machinery and equipment from the elements. But what if the louvred system itself needs protection?

That was the challenge we faced at Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College on the south coast.

The rooftop site on the new four-storey teaching block was exposed to salty air, which can reduce the lifespan of normal PPC coatings. So, we applied marine grade powder coating to our V100 louvred plant screen system for extra protection.

Completed in May 2020, the plant screen spans a total of 27m on four sides. The 100mm blades allow air to flow around the equipment, but prevent water ingress.

The specification and coating were agreed in consultation with architects HNW and contractors Brymor, and align visually with the red brick and copper cladding of the new block.

The new £8.5m building will provide more teaching space for students, and will house science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics departments.
