Maple have supplied and installed 145 roller blinds for a new police headquarters in Blackpool. And just like the Lancashire Constabulary, our successful outcome came from careful investigations.
At 2.2m wide with a 3m drop, they were some of the largest we’ve created ― and the heaviest. So, when it came to installation, we had to weight up all the evidence.
“Each roller blind was around 8kg ― too heavy for the plasterboard ceiling,” explained Maple’s Internal Blind Manager, Chris Rimmer. “So, we worked with the architect to design a different fixing detail that would attach directly to the mullions of the curtain walling and ensure a secure fix.”
The £24m police station, which opened in the summer of 2018, is a striking addition to Blackpool’s built environment. It has been constructed with modern materials suitable for a coastal environment, and includes many energy-saving features.
Maple’s blinds, from our Ultra roller-shade range, control glare and help keep the building cool in summer (reducing air-conditioning costs) but still allow some natural light when closed.
The manually controlled blinds are ‘reverse-fixed’ so the rollers fix neatly between the window mullions. To complete the seamless effect, our specialist fixings were powder-coated to the precise RAL colour.
