Maple have won a new contract for Cadent in Leicester.

We’re installing a solar shading system for the gas distributor’s new offices.

As with many new office buildings, it features large, glazed curtain walls – which bring challenges as well as benefits. So, architects AWW have addressed the challenges of overheating and glare from the sun’s rays by specifying vertical fins.

These aluminium fins, supplied and installed by Maple, will take the sting out of the setting sun on the west elevation.

Two runs of fins, at 4m and 6m, will help make the office space more comfortable for occupants. They’ll require specialist fixings to attach to the curtain wall, and will be perforated to reduce weight and allow non-direct light into the building.

The project, which is being led by MCS Construction, also includes louvred screening on the roof.
