The Royal Oldham Hospital has recently opened a £28 million extension which serves to treat patients needing general emergency and colorectal care. Maple were instrumental in the supply and installation of the two types of
rainscreen cladding onto all elevations of the four-storey building.
The north, west, and south elevations showcase a blend of terracotta tile and aluminium rainscreen cladding. As part of DAY Architectural's vision for the building, the selection of terracotta panels pays homage to Oldham's illustrious mill history, while the aluminium panels, powder-coated in 'Tanami Sable', complement the hospital's existing red brick aesthetic.
To optimise natural light and introduce a refreshing change to the predominately red brick construction of the hospital, white powder-coated panels were strategically installed on the internal courtyard.
Royal Oldham also presented the Maple team with a logistical problem regarding access difficulties on the site. This was overcome by splitting the panels into smaller sections and reassembling them during installation.
