There’s no place like home, Car Park façade for Stockport Exchange

A 3D concertina façade has been installed onto a multi-storey car park only three miles from our Stockport factory.

A façade comprising shaped perforated panels and expanded mesh has been installed onto a 400-space multi-storey park.  The car park is designed to serve office occupiers as part of Muse Development's £145m regeneration of Stockport Exchange.

Expanded mesh panels have been fixed onto the north, west and south elevations of the new car park. We were also responsible for the installation of a welded steel mesh façade on the east and south faces.

The car park also has an interesting 3D feature which was created by folded perforated sheets. Each aluminium sheet protrudes outwards producing a striking concertina effect across the exterior of the development. The sheets were attached using the Continuum façade system which has been designed to accommodate the tolerances and live loads common to multi-storey car parks, whilst still allowing architects creative versatility.

The innovative multi-storey features a living wall, supplied by ANS Global to help improve air quality and promote biodiversity. To learn more, read 'What are the structural and regulatory benefits of living walls?' on our Knowledge Centre.

Solar panels will also help generate electricity for the 24 vehicle charging points and reduce the building’s carbon footprint.

Cllr Colin MacAlister, Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration at Stockport Council provided a comment on the environmentally conscious car park: ‘The sustainability features of the car park really set it apart, with a number of innovative features.’

The regeneration of Stockport is now in its fourth phase and Maple are proud to have been involved in such a transformative project on home soil.
