Over 1300 Maple fins clad a new hospital car park in the Midlands

An array of silver, copper and green fins mask the new multi-storey for the University Hospitals of the North Midlands.

Maple’s latest architectural façade project was in collaboration with VINCI Construction and involved the installation of over 1300 vertical fins and expanded mesh onto Grindley Hill Court car park in Stoke.

The aluminium fins have been anodised in silver, copper and green and arranged to create a muted yet appealing aesthetic that blends in with the residential area. Over 3700 sqm of silver expanded mesh has also been installed on all elevations of the car park which will help light and ventilation in and allow petrol fumes to escape.

The car park was commissioned following the demolition of two neighbouring sites leading to an increased demand for staff parking and has recently been unveiled by the University Hospitals of the North Midlands NHS Trust.

The project was not only successful for Maple in that the end result matched Gilling Dod Architects' design intent, but also through our demonstration of modern methods of construction and safety conduct, which was recognised by VINCI.

The aluminium fins were installed as pre-assembled cassettes that comprised multiple blades for efficient off-site manufacture, and effective and safer onsite installation.

Maple Contracts Manager, Bob McMann, also received a commendation from Vinci for his exceptional conduct onsite; a great achievement as Grindley Hill Court car park marked Bob’s final project after being a part of the Maple family for 7 years.
