What do your robust quality checking procedures look like?

The best façade companies build their reputations on the quality of the products they supply. But how do they do it?

In a nutshell:

  • Checking quality should be part of a company’s over-arching quality culture
  • It begins before materials reach the factory
  • All factory operatives are trained to constantly look for quality issues
  • Careful packaging ensures products reach site undamaged
  • Packing components in the right order can avoid over-handling and reduce the risk of damage
  • ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 are the international standards that focus on quality, environmental management, and health and safety

For a start, nothing is left to chance – from before the materials even reach the factory, to the moment the finished product leaves. It’s all part of a quality culture, and driven by internationally recognised quality standards.

Manufacturers and suppliers will work together to identify potential problems early. Checking materials at source means some components can go straight to site – reducing transport and handling costs, and reducing the risk of damage.

Although good standard operating procedures will check around 10% of all façade components for size, imperfections, weld quality, hole size and the like, all factory operatives are trained to constantly look for issues.

Façade products are often made from lightweight aluminium, and prone to damage. To ensure optimum product quality, all components will be packaged carefully (and also in the correct order to make installation easier and avoid excess handling on site).
