How do façades get delivered to site?

Architectural façades may look seamless with huge elevations of perfectly aligned panels.

In a nutshell:

  • Efficient delivery is a crucial factor in a successful architectural façade project
  • Components should be carefully packed in the order they’re required
  • Unique reference numbers for each component should match the drawings
  • Raising pallets straight onto the building reduces potential damage and risks to safety
  • Delivery should be planned as early in the design process as possible

That’s often down to the vision of the architect and the skill of the installer.

But don’t forget about the specialist manufacturer, whose ability to supply the right panels, with the right fixings, in the right order to the right place makes a massive contribution to the smooth running of the project.

Components should be carefully packed in the order they’re required, and given unique reference numbers that match the drawings. Ideally, pallets should be raised straight onto the building, rather than being offloaded and sorted on the ground, which can cause damage and delays, and a risk to safety.

How to ensure efficient delivery?

As with most stages in the design, manufacture and installation of architectural façades, delivery is best planned in collaboration with the project manager, site manager and the façade company’s production manager. Most importantly, it should be planned as early in the design process as possible – as soon as drawings are approved.
