Perforated brise soleil and vertical Contour® Louvres contribute to the net-zero status of the new office building.

A series of perforated panels have been installed as canopies across the ground and first floors of Plot 9A First Street, acting as brise soleil to reduce solar gain and glare.

Perforated panels are an ideal solution for natural temperature regulation in low-energy buildings. The perforated brise soleil design supports natural airflow, allowing air to pass through the openings and contribute to passive ventilation and cooling. The perforations also allow natural light to filter through, which helps illuminate the interior spaces of a building, thereby reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day.  Lastly, the perforations can be modified to fit the architectural style of the building.

In addition to solar shading, Maple have installed Contour® VL louvres on the south elevation at ground level and around the rooftop terrace. They’ve been installed in a vertical orientation, providing effective natural ventilation while maintaining a clean, linear appearance in line with the wider façade design.

Plot 9A marks Maple’s latest sustainable development and sets a benchmark for future office buildings with a 5.5-star NABERS rating, the highest in Manchester. NABERS stands for National Australian Built Environment Rating System, it is a performance-based rating system originally developed in Australia that measures the environmental performance of buildings during operation, focusing on areas such as energy, water, waste and indoor environment quality.
