Maple have completed work on Arco’s new £16m office development in Hull’s Blackfriargate – and on the Fruit Market car park next door.

The parallel projects for PDR Construction helped achieve manufacturing and installation efficiencies, and showcased the range of Maple’s façade and screening expertise.

We supplied and installed vertical fins, brise soleil light shelves and louvred rooftop plant screens on Arco’s new five-storey office building – as well as fins and an expanded mesh façade to the 350-space car park.

Together, the projects make a significant visual and economic contribution to the ongoing regeneration of a tired area of the city.

“The overall look of the new development is modern and bold, and has already received many positive comments about its ‘iconic’ appearance,” said Arco’s Estates & Facilities Project Leader, Steve Owen.

Councillor Daren Hale, Leader of Hull City Council, added: “The Arco relocation is a major part of our long-term vision for the city centre, and key to the regeneration and investment that continues to take place on the Fruit Market.

The twin projects share many common components, helping to achieve economies of scale and reduce the carbon footprint, while Maple’s onsite teams treated the two buildings as a single project to achieve installation efficiencies.

Arco’s new home is the largest new-build office development for a single user in the Hull area since the 1960s. It’s location means the fins and louvred screen are marine-grade anodised to protect the aluminium from the corrosive effects of salt spray from the Humber estuary. Meanwhile, on the nearby car park, our mesh façade will provide the framework for a ‘green wall’ in keeping with the Fruit Market’s commercial roots.
