Maple win rainscreen cladding contract for UWE Frenchay campus

Maple are delighted to win a contract on one of the UK’s largest Passivhaus developments.

We’ll be working with main contractors VINCI Building to install rainscreen cladding to three new accommodation blocks on the University of the West of England’s Frenchay Campus in Bristol.

As well as looking great, the rainscreen cladding will contribute to the development’s target of achieving the Passivhaus standard for net zero emissions – standards that will help VINCI Building and UWE Bristol achieve their sustainability goals.

When complete, the Stride Treglown-designed accommodation will provide a high level of occupant comfort for 2,250 students but use very little energy for heating and cooling. Part of that will be down to the use of Maple’s thermally efficient, adjustable sub-frame, which minimises thermal bridging. It’s currently being tested as part of a project-specific wall build-up at the VINCI Technology Centre UK Limited to ensure Passivhaus compliance for air leakage.

All three buildings will be clad in a combination of non-combustible cladding materials: Equitone’s 8mm Tectiva and 10mm Linea fibre cement panels, and Maple’s 3mm aluminium cassette rainscreen cladding. All panels will use Maple’s efficient face-fix system, while 3mm aluminium flashings will create a ‘picture frame’ look on the façade.

We are also installing a rooftop plant screen system.
