Dramatic Car Park Project Up For Building Of The Decade | Maple

Written by David Carroll | 17/04/18 14:48

One of Maple’s most dramatic car park projects is in the running to be named Building of the Decade for Cheshire and North Derbyshire.

Time Square car park in Warrington has been nominated in the People’s Choice poll by BBC’s North West Tonight programme.

The multi-storey, which takes its design inspiration from local landmarks, joins Buxton Natural Mineral Water Factory, The Mersey Gateway (Halton), Planet Pavilion (Jodrell Bank) and Storyhouse (Chester) on the short list. The winner will go forward to the BBC North West grand final.

Inspired by Warrington’s historic wire rope trade and the town’s famous ‘golden gates’, the eight-level car park in the city’s new Bridge Street Quarter development, is cloaked in a gold-coloured architectural façade.

Maple created more than 1,600 gold-coloured aluminium panels with hexagon cut-outs for the building, and took 12 weeks to install them over a vertical area equivalent to an average football pitch.

Voting will be open from Thursday 19 April (6.30pm) to Friday 20 April (12 noon), with a special report about the winner planned for North West Tonight on Thursday 26 April.
