Maple have won the contract to supply and install vertical fins for a new blue light hub in Redditch.
Designed by architects Bond Bryan to add visual interest to the exterior of the combined police and fire station, the perforated fins will also protect the interior from direct sunlight.
The 14 brise soleil fins will ultimately span between eight and 12 metres but have been split into smaller sections for ease of manufacture, delivery and installation.
It’s Maple’s latest project with main contractor Speller Metcalfe, having worked together on the new A&E extension at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. And it’s another in our portfolio of projects for the emergency services - in 2017, we completed a project to supply and install brise soleil and climate façades for a new home for Northamptonshire Police.
We installed a linear climate façade for the three-storey office building on a site between Kettering and Corby, and used our modular Strata Corona brise soleil system (ideal for longer, continuous spans) on the neighbouring custody block.
Maple are due to install the fins in Redditch in November, with the facility due to open in autumn 2024. When complete, the so-called ‘blue light hub’ will be shared by West Mercia Police and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
