Maple is committed to reducing energy consumption and waste where we can. So, were excited to be involved in a new contract for the North London Waste Authority that puts environmental responsibility and sustainable construction in the spotlight.
We’re installing louvres, solar screening and cladding for the North London Heat and Power Project’s new facility at Edmonton EcoPark. The project will deliver a world-class resource recovery facility capable of serving the energy needs of more than 125,000 homes, as well as providing public recycling facilities.
Also underway is the construction of a visitor and education centre, where people can find out more about recycling, energy recovery and reducing the carbon impact of their waste.
Maple’s products will have practical and aesthetic benefits:
- Ventilation louvres will protect important machinery and equipment from the elements, while allowing airflow
- Sliding brise soleil screens will allow natural light but reduce solar gain in the visitor centre – reducing energy on lighting, heating and air conditioning
- Timber board cladding will provide thermally efficient protection for the building envelope
A fourth element, striking aluminium fins, is our most challenging. Conceived by Grimshaw Architects to span 10m unsupported (more than twice the norm), they’ve been transformed from vision to buildable reality during a pre-construction phase that included Finite Element Analysis and 3D modelling in our Stockport factory.
Maple are due on site in November, with work expected to continue until mid-2022.
