Maple’s plant screening help Hale End Court development win top award

Maple have been back on site at Hale End Court in Old Woking – just in time to see the independent living development win a Project of the Year award.

After installing our Pluto rooftop screening system on the four-storey building earlier in 2022, we’ve returned to add expanded mesh to the screen to create a framework for hanging plants.

It’s typical of the attention to detail shown by contractors Willmott Dixon, HNW Architects and Woking Borough Council that resulted in the development being named Building Project of the Year over £10m at the Constructing Excellence SECBE Awards.

Celebrating the win, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Living Well, Ellen Nicholson, said: “It is brilliant that the hard work of so many parties in bringing Hale End Court to life has been recognised by this award. From the very beginning, this project has set out to deliver a modern and comfortable home for our residents, while minimising the environmental impact, and meeting time and budget targets.”

The Old Woking project highlighted the many benefits of Maple’s Pluto louvred screening system. Designed to hide unsightly HVAC machinery, the system is lighter and easier to install than traditional systems. It fixes easily to the building sub-frame using galvanised steel brackets, while an advanced sub-structure of posts, mullions and rails in high grade aluminium provides hidden support for the 100mm louvre blades.

“We used our Pluto system for its lightweight properties, which make it easy to install,” said Maple director Jay McGrath. “Hale End Court was another great opportunity for Maple to showcase our capabilities and expertise in the design and installation of rooftop screening and ventilation louvre systems.”
